I May Not Vie for Office, But I’ll Always Stand for Truth - Steve Were

I’m Steve Were. I don’t have any plans to run for political office in Kenya—but that doesn’t mean I’ll sit back quietly. I believe in being a changemaker . Not one who plays politics, but one who stands for honesty, fairness, and unity in this country we all love. Photo Courtesy | Steve Were | The Savvy Journalist Lately, I’ve been seeing something that doesn’t sit right with me. Some of our leaders—especially those who’ve been in power before—are speaking out in ways that feel, frankly, hypocritical. And I say this with all due respect. Take the former president, for example—the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya. For 10 years, he had the full support of the current president. Even way back in 2002, he rode on that support. But now, because they’re no longer aligned politically, he’s suddenly speaking in ways that plant seeds of division and bitterness. Why? Where is the consistency? Where is the gratitude? Where is the leadership? Kenya is going through a transformation....

Farmers demand Mau Forest fencing for elephants

Hundreds of farmers living along the Mau-Forest border at Kaplamboi Sub-location in Kipkelion East Sub-County, Kericho County, have urged the national government to consider erecting an electric fence along the border point at Mau-Forest to repulse the rogue elephants that invade their farms often. The farmers, who are now counting losses, lamented that Monday night a herd of eleven elephants went on a rampage in the village, destroying maize crops, banana plantations, and vegetables as they struggled every night to chase them back to the forest. Speaking to Kenya News Agency Elijah Mutai, a farmer in Chepsir, Kapkatunga village, said that the Kenya Wildlife Service has already issued the affected farmers with forms to fill out to be compensated for the losses they incurred; however, he said the lasting solution will be fencing off the Mau Forest. “I have not reaped any benefit from my farm for the last two years due to the elephants’ invasion and that is why we need a permanent ...

Raphinha There were subplots aplenty heading into this intriguing first El Clásico of the season – the first for Kylian Mbappé and Hansi Flick on either side of the divide in Spanish football’s biggest rivalry. Mbappé was striving to make an early impression, and Barça had their blushes twice spared by the linesman’s flag, as the Frenchman saw an effort skim the side netting, before he teed up Jude Bellingham with a close-range effort which was clawed away by Iñaki Peña in the opening exchanges. The France captain also reacted to a Pau Cubarsí error with a long-range shot that just cleared the crossbar. Flick had plenty of ammunition at his disposal too though, and La Masia prodigy Lamine Yamal was denied by...
