Kericho Technical Training Institute supports Londiani accident victims in blood donation.
After
the road carnage at Londiani Junction in Kericho County which claimed
life of 52 people and scores badly injured. Kericho Technical Training
Institute in conjunction with Blood Transfusion Services-Kericho
Satellite Blood Bank conducts a blood donation drive to help the victims
ongoing with treatment at Londiani Sub-County Hospital & Kericho
Referral Hospital respectively.
Blood donation
drive scheduled to take place in the Kericho Technical Training
Vocational Centre (KETTVC) for two days 5th and 6th of July starting
from 9AM to 4PM, as Kericho Satellite Blood Bank call for members of the
public to come forth in donating blood to assist mitigate the gap.
Principal
of Blood Transfusion Services Mrs. Josephine Korir earnesedly call for
those who have been touched by the Londiani accident to join them in
providing blood to the victims of the accident who are undergoing
medical treatment at Kericho Referral Hospital and Londiani Sub-County
Hospital.
“We are fully calling for all members
of the public to join us at Kericho Technical Training Vocational
Centre (KETTVC) compound for a two-day blood donation drive where our
main aim is to support Ministry of Health, Kericho County in gets
sufficient blood.” Said Mrs. Josephine Korir.
Speaking to KNA,
Mrs. Josephine said that they conducts a pre-donation test and
questionnaire forms to ensure that the donor meets the criteria of
donating blood. She also mentioned that they first take a critical tests
where those with blood pressure, diabetics, HIV/AIDs, epilepsy and
those under medication or breast-feeding mothers are not allowed to
donate blood.
“We donate blood to the hospital
by taking them to the region for screening at Kenya National Blood
Transfusion (KNBT) before they get in use in the hospital. Any blood
group are urged to come since the lifespan of our blood band runs up to
30-45 days depending on the group”. Said Mrs. Josephine.

Obutu a student at Kericho Technical Training Institute expressed her
emotional touch by the accident as she stepped up in donating blood. She
termed the drive as an effective and supportive factor that will see
members live in one love and care.
“I have today donated
willfully my blood which I know will help one or more patient(s) who
suffered the horrific Londiani accident get restoration from blood loss
and I am thankful to the team for conducting it effectively with no
pain, and even providing soda and biscuits for energizing the body”.
Said Monica
Mr. Wilson Kosgei the deputy principal Kericho
Technical Training Institute (KETTVC) also never ceased in expressing
their utmost touch by the previous carnage at Londiani, Kericho County.
He said that through the leadership of the TVET, they have committed a
powerful agreement to have blood donation at the college.
He
alluded that the people who passed on and those who suffered injuries
are members of this county and country therefore, they need to be
supported as the incident didn’t happen with their fault. Kosgei thanked
the Kericho Satellite Blood Bank for their utmost plans to resolve the
issue.
