I’m Steve Were. I don’t have any plans to run for political office in Kenya—but that doesn’t mean I’ll sit back quietly. I believe in being a changemaker. Not one who plays politics, but one who stands for honesty, fairness, and unity in this country we all love.

Lately, I’ve been seeing something that doesn’t sit right with me. Some of our leaders—especially those who’ve been in power before—are speaking out in ways that feel, frankly, hypocritical. And I say this with all due respect.
Take the former president, for example—the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya. For 10 years, he had the full support of the current president. Even way back in 2002, he rode on that support. But now, because they’re no longer aligned politically, he’s suddenly speaking in ways that plant seeds of division and bitterness. Why?
Where is the consistency? Where is the gratitude? Where is the leadership?
Kenya is going through a transformation. It’s not perfect, and yes, we can and should question policies that don’t serve the people. But let’s not pretend to be critics just because someone else is in charge now. Let’s not forget the help we once received when it’s no longer convenient to acknowledge it.
We need leaders—and citizens—who rise above political sideshows, tribal lines, and personal bitterness. Kenya is bigger than that.
Me? I just want to see a better Kenya. A Kenya where we call out the truth even if it’s uncomfortable. Where we support progress, not because it’s "our guy" in power, but because it's the right thing to do.
I may not be a politician. But I’ll always use my voice. I’ll always stand up when things feel off. Because silence, in times like this, is a form of betrayal too.
